​SUMMARY

Welcome to Basic 2. Instructional materials, activities and resources meet the capabilities of "The Survivor" (Equals grade 6/7 native user outcomes).  
Language usage needs to make sense to the learner. The focus is on application instead of theory. 
Basic 2 incorporates a 'Whole Language Approach' and '21st Century Skills'.  Reading, writing, speaking and listening - are taught in an integrated fashion along with critical thinking, problem-solving, reasoning and analysis.​

Your friend Zanele discovers an old, undelivered love-letter. She is determined to find the mystery girl from the photo that came with the letter. Let's help two people live their 'happily-ever-after-story'! ​

Mrs Olive liked the story. She wants us to write a story like this every week. This week we must come up with an exciting second part for "The lame woman and the blind man." We also have to deal with other potential disasters that might pop up around the office.

After completing these tasks you will be able to:

  • brush up your writing skills in: practicing spelling of verbs with consonants doubling, changing sentences from present to past tense, writing selected words, paragraphs and direct speech as well as writing a dialogue

For your next story you turn to Christina for inspiration. You start off thinking that you’ll write about Christina’s first job experience, but you soon realise that this story is more about waste, saving and preparation. Complete all tasks and impress the ever so stern Mrs. Olive. 

After completing these tasks you will be able to:
  •  understand and choose the right words for the situation. 
  • break up words into syllables. 
  • guess the meaning of unfamiliar words in sentences. 
  • recognise pronunciation of ‘silent e’ and ‘y’.
  • read and find meaning in a message.
  • brush up your writing skills by listing ideas on how to save and writing for fun, collaborating with others
  • discuss and debate about topics relating to ‘bad times’ and saving tips
  • improve your English listening skills
